Codex Security and side chat loop over the same sidebar until React error #185
constantins2001 · ghdev · 2026-07-20
A Codex Desktop user reports a renderer/resource-lifecycle bug where a completed Security workspace and an ephemeral side chat keep fighting for the same sidebar surface.
Symptoms
- the Security tab cannot be permanently closed
- returning from or closing the side chat causes the Security workspace to rehydrate through mcpServer/resource/read
- the side chat repeatedly toggles active/inactive
- the loop eventually triggers the app-wide AppRoutes error boundary with Minified React error #185
What this is not
The report says the underlying task data is fine:
- the JSONL transcript is valid
- thread/read returns all completed turns
- this is not transcript corruption, native OOM, or an active security scan
Reproduction
Open a local task that has launched Codex Security, complete the scan, open a side chat, then leave it and try to close the Security tab. The two surfaces continue to reclaim ownership of the same sidebar area.
