Research thread argues elegant reparameterizations can fail without simple empirical wins
kalomaze · x · 2026-07-23
A technical discussion argues that the field still hasn’t learned a basic lesson: badly conditioned reparameterizations are not useful just because they have elegant theory.
The reply pushes back on a common diffusion-model assumption — that the denoiser and the component producing deeper understanding must be tightly coupled. Instead, it suggests you can:
- use a cheap denoiser
- condition it on deterministic vectors from a larger model
- gain substantial headroom even before introducing MoE
The example used to illustrate the critique is flow matching.
