Tesla's Q2 2026 call highlighted a broader push into energy and robots:
- Elon Musk said Tesla is preparing to vertically integrate solar panels end-to-end, including silicon ingot growth, cells, and panels, with a Texas site expected to reach roughly 10× current U.S. solar-panel manufacturing capacity.
- Musk tied the move to an impending electricity crunch driven by AI demand and transport electrification.
- For Optimus, Tesla said the vision stack can take pixels and turn them into driving output, and it wants to extend that approach to reading computer screens and operating a computer like a human.
- Hardware Optimus V3 is expected to start in Fremont soon, while a large Texas factory is being built for Optimus V4 with more vertical integration, including PCB manufacturing.
- Tesla said initial Optimus units will be used in Optimus Academy for training and real-time reinforcement learning.
- Robotaxi miles driven are rising about 10% week over week, and Tesla says that trend should continue.
