Gary Marcus responds to a question about what he meant by “merged with (neuro)symbolic tools,” saying Claude Code alone already uses more than 50 tools.
He argues it also relies on classic programming constructs—regular expressions, conditionals, loops, and similar mechanisms—making it a very different paradigm from a purely feed-forward, single-pass neural network.
