While the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) might not have been lower than consuming cloud resources, the prepaid and frictionless experience significantly increased his willingness to experiment for big wins.
He also noted the rapid pace of hardware iteration: a single RTX 4090 today exceeds the power of his old 4x1080Ti setup, though his current goal is now 9 much more expensive high-end compute cards.
