Anthropic to Deploy 2GW of AMD GPUs in $5B Deal to Challenge Nvidia
The Decoder · rss · 2026-07-23
AMD is investing up to $5 billion in Anthropic. In return, Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of MI450 GPUs for training and running its Claude models.
Following previous deals with Meta and OpenAI, this marks another major agreement for AMD as it attempts to challenge Nvidia's monopoly on AI chip supply. However, critics view these funding and compute purchase agreements as circular cash flows.
