ChatGPT/Codex desktop breaks new chat on macOS with a DeviceCheck error
After updating the desktop app to 26.707.72221, a macOS user says New Chat no longer starts and instead fails with:
> DeviceCheck token generation is unavailable
According to the report:
- existing Projects still work normally;
- the browser version works normally;
- the failure only affects the new chat flow;
- logs show repeated attempts to connect to Apple’s com.apple.devicecheckd, but the daemon cannot be found.
The issue started immediately after the built-in updater installed the new version.
