Meitu launched the MeituHatchCatch product challenge, putting up RMB 100 million to find AI-native imaging apps that are already live and have seed users.
- Unlike a hackathon, the program is aimed at teams that have passed prototype stage and are now facing product validation and growth.
- Meitu says it already ran an internal version this year: 207 teams produced 136 runnable AI demos, including 43 one-person teams.
- The article argues that as model quality becomes more accessible, the real competition in AI imaging shifts from model capability to product design and founder-market fit.
- Selected teams will get 12 weeks of incubation support, including workshops, product co-creation, user research, closed beta resources, technical help, and possible investment of up to RMB 5 million per project.
