BloombergNEF: U.S. data centers could use 20% of national electricity by 2035
coinfanking · reddit · 2026-07-22
BloombergNEF says U.S. data centers could consume one-fifth of all electricity generated in the country by 2035, roughly 4x today’s share.
- The report expects data center capacity to rise to nearly 200 GW over the next decade as AI compute surges.
- Nearly half of that capacity would go to training and inference.
- The load would stay heavily U.S.-centric: by 2033, the U.S. is projected to host 64% of AI chips by power demand.
