Claude Code CLI Update: Caps Concurrent Subagents and Fixes Memory Leak
ClaudeCodeLog · x · 2026-07-22
Anthropic has released version 2.1.217 of Claude Code CLI, introducing several new features and fixes:
- New Features: Added emoji shortcode autocomplete; introduced a cap on concurrently running subagents (default 20, configurable via environment variable) to prevent unbounded background agent fan-out from a single message; added warnings for transcript write failures or disabled session saving.
- Fixes: Fixed a memory leak where truncated MCP tool outputs retained the full untruncated result in memory; fixed Windows auto-update failures that could leave claude.exe missing, now automatically restoring the preserved executable upon failure.
