Stanford Team Introduces Gigatoken, the World's Fastest Tokenizer
StanfordAILab · x · 2026-07-22
Marcel Roed from the Stanford AI Lab introduced Gigatoken, claiming to be the world's fastest tokenizer implementation.
Performance:
- 500-1000x faster than HuggingFace implementations.
- 100x faster than OpenAI's tiktoken.
Notably, the baseline implementations being compared against are already multithreaded Rust versions. Roed is also a co-author of Stanford's CS 336 (LLMs from Scratch) course.
