The European Commission is forcing Google to open Android’s system-level AI access to rival assistants, while Gemini 3.5 Pro keeps missing its launch deadline.
- Under the DMA, rivals like ChatGPT or Claude should eventually get access to the same wake-word, home-button, screen-reading, and in-app control privileges that Gemini has on Android.
- The post says those changes will roll out starting January 2027 for search data and July 2027 for Android features.
