Expert Warns Against Binary Switches for AIxBio Research, Advocates Tiered Access

Commenting on the safety regulation of AIxBio research, researcher David Manheim argues that lumping all related research into a single capability that AI companies can simply turn on and off is a fundamental mistake.
He points out that most relevant biodefense research is not dual-use. Furthermore, labs can implement much better controls than a binary on/off switch, such as utilizing tiered access mechanisms.
