Nativ brings local AI model running to Mac with a desktop app and localhost API
Simon Willison · rss · 2026-07-21
Simon Willison highlights Nativ, a new macOS desktop app by Prince Canuma for running AI models locally on a Mac.
- It wraps MLX in a full desktop application, similar in shape to LM Studio.
- The app includes both a chat interface and a localhost API server.
- It automatically picked up MLX models already present in the user's Hugging Face cache.
Willison notes that the developer is also behind the MLX-VLM Python library for running vision LLMs on Macs.
