Google says AI Mode queries are 3x longer, and users often never leave it

Users are spending more time in Google’s AI Mode than in traditional search, and the prompts are getting much longer.
- Google said at its developer conference in May that AI Mode queries are roughly 3× longer than keyword-heavy searches in traditional Search.
- According to three studies summarized by The New York Times, people spend 1 to 9 more minutes in AI Mode than on classic Google searches.
- A Growth Memo study found that in about 75% of sessions, users never left AI Mode for the web.
