Developer says an agent feels freer after removing linting and type checks
hichaelmart · x · 2026-07-21
A developer says they removed typechecking and linting from an agent’s task and told it to work in plain JavaScript, using only E2E tests as guidance. The result felt dramatically freer: - the agent stopped burning tokens on tooling overhead - it moved faster and with fewer “wheel-spinning” loops - the author describes it as the agent being “unshackled” and “bounding around” with no constraints It’s a small anecdote, but it highlights a real workflow tradeoff: stricter scaffolding can improve safety and correctness, yet sometimes it also slows the agent down enough to blunt its usefulness.
