Italian humanoid Gene.01 goes from CES concept to walking robot
Generative Bionics says its Gene.01 humanoid has gone from a CES 2026 concept reveal to a platform that can now walk, sense, interact, and grasp objects in just six months.
- The robot now has a multimodal skin and is described as a fully functional platform.
- The company says the next step is practical training in a factory.
- It is also partnering with Fincantieri on a GENE-series humanoid welder for shipyards, aimed at dangerous, repetitive welding in tight hull spaces.
- The plan is to use advanced vision for real-time quality control while keeping human workers on higher-skill tasks.
- Real-world testing is planned at the Sestri Ponente shipyard by the end of 2026, within a 4-year roadmap.
