Musk mocks for-profit AI companies for calling themselves “labs”

Elon Musk says it is “pretentious and poisonous” for for-profit companies to call themselves “labs,” arguing that the label creates a lord-and-peasant culture between supposed researchers and engineers.
The screenshot frames the complaint as a broader critique of how AI companies present themselves: in Musk’s view, most of these people are engineers anyway, at least on their better days.
