Claude Code Introduces Screen Reader Mode for Visually Impaired Developers

Anthropic updated Claude Code with a new screen reader mode, enabling visually impaired developers to utilize the AI coding assistant effectively.
- Linear Text Output: Replaces visual terminal UI and animations with plain, sequential text labeled you:, claude:, tool:, etc., for easy screen reader navigation.
- Adapted Interactions: Arrow-key menus are converted to numbered lists, permissions are simplified to y/n inputs, and terminal bells alert users when action is required.
- Activation: Can be enabled via CLI flag, environment variable, or config file (requires v2.1.181+).
- Additional Settings: Includes options for visible native cursors, reduced motion, and colorblind-friendly themes.
