AI may shrink companies while creating more of them

AI as “organizational Ozempic”: slimmer companies may not mean fewer jobs overall. Harvard Business School’s Rem Koning argues that AI can reduce the size of each company while also making it easier to start new ones, which could lead to more companies with smaller teams.

The point is that AI’s labor impact may be more complex than simple job loss: it can compress headcount inside firms while expanding the total number of firms in the economy.
