A new analysis says the share of new arXiv papers flagged as machine-written has surged since ChatGPT.
- The post claims the threshold was calibrated so pre-ChatGPT papers flag at 0.4%.
- After Nov 2022, the flagged share rises sharply and reaches the 30%+ range by 2026 in the chart.
- By field, the recent share is highest in computer science (65%), followed by quantitative biology (56.3%) and electrical engineering & systems (51.3%).
- At the low end, mathematics remains near 0.7%.
- The visual suggests that AI-written or AI-polished academic text is becoming common in some fields, while others remain much less affected.
