AI Agent Cryptanalysis Exposes Flaws in MCP Toolchains

Cryptography expert Matthew Green shared practical pain points of using AI agents for cryptanalysis: cracking specific passwords often requires brute-forcing the creation of custom tools and strictly constraining the agent for multi-hypothesis testing and self-scoring, a method that struggles to generalize.

He noted that the ideal solution would be for agents to autonomously download and use appropriate toolkits when encountering unknown ciphers. However, this exactly exposes the current rough edges and deficiencies in agent toolchains, particularly the MCP protocol, for real-world applications.
