A study explored the impact of unrestricted chatbot access on student educational outcomes. Data showed that using AI for problem-solving significantly boosted student grades (up 48% for the base version, and 127% for the tutoring version).

However, when AI access was subsequently revoked, these students actually performed worse than those who had never used AI (a 17% drop in scores). This indicates that without proper guardrails, students tend to use AI as a "crutch," thereby weakening their own independent problem-solving skills.
