Monitoring Claude Code Status With Smart Bulbs
ReshadatAli · reddit · 2026-07-20
A developer shared a fun project called claude-glow, which connects smart bulbs to Claude Code's hooks.
- Status mapping: Shows amber when tools are running, turns blue when completed, and dim green when idle. When Claude is waiting for user authorization, the bulb flashes red continuously to remind the user to return.
- Implementation details: Compatible with cheap Tuya-manufactured smart bulbs. You just need a Tuya developer account to get a local key once, and subsequent control is entirely local. The control logic is triggered by a hook running a Python script that sends packets to the bulb.
- Open source: The project is open-sourced under the MIT license, perfect for developers running long tasks who don't want to stare at the screen.
