Stuart Russell on Long-Term Risks of Stronger AI

Stuart Russell noted that it has been 50 years since he built his first AI system, but it wasn't until the last 15 years that he seriously started to ponder: why do humans want to build machines smarter than themselves?

He also mentioned that Turing warned us long ago: if we truly succeed, machines might take control. This post is primarily a recount of a major AI researcher's long-term reflections on the direction of AGI.
