The author believes we are getting clearer on how to build practically usable solutions with the current generation of AI, including mixing frontier and non-frontier models, and using fine-tuned small models in appropriate scenarios.

However, he stresses that these practices may not be the stable long-term answer. He isn't referring to distant ASI, but to the anticipated phase over the "next year" where capabilities will continue to improve exponentially; even as the overall capability curve trends upward, performance will still remain highly "uneven."
