Chinese 14nm Chip Startup Valued at $1.8 Billion

Spun out from a Tsinghua University chip lab, this startup has developed an AI accelerator using a 14nm process. It claims to match 4nm-class chips in certain inference tasks, though it still lags in training.

While these performance claims are yet to be verified, the technology is backed by 20 years of R&D, a $138 million investment from Intel, and was hailed by the MIT Technology Review as a "highest achievement." Its core philosophy leverages a software-defined hardware architecture to overcome manufacturing process disadvantages.
