An Epoch AI study estimates AI's impact on engineer productivity. By using LLMs to evaluate the manual time required for merged PRs, the research found that with AI assistance, 8% of developer workdays in Q2 2026 equated to over 24 hours of unassisted work. This represents a massive jump compared to a year ago (2%). While precisely measuring overall project acceleration remains challenging, this provides compelling quantitative data.
