The author argues that judging whether a model is "frontier" requires more than just a general vibe; capabilities, latency, token efficiency, and price must be evaluated together on a Pareto frontier based on actual workloads. Technical users truly care about code reliability, long-range agent behavior, context retention, tool calling, controllability, and deployability.
They also noted that several ml/systems/infra engineers they know migrated their primary workflows to k3 shortly after adopting it. Even those originally focused on primary research and coding workflows switched rapidly after testing. Though anecdotal, the author believes the quick adoption by such demanding users speaks volumes more than casual observations on social media timelines.
