Should You Put Claude Code Repos in iCloud?
LucaCapone · reddit · 2026-07-18
An indie developer using Claude Code ran into macOS iCloud Drive sync chaos. With iCloud sync enabled for Desktop & Documents across a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro, project repos placed in Documents ended up split between local and cloud-only files. iCloud got stuck in an endless upload/download loop, forcing Claude Code to operate in this hybrid half-local, half-cloud state.
They are seeking best practices:
- Should repos strictly live in a local directory excluded from iCloud, like /Code?
- Should they work entirely within iCloud Drive to enjoy seamless cross-device sync?
- Or is a hybrid approach better: keeping active repos local while using iCloud for docs/exports and syncing across machines via git?
The post aims to gather real-world workflows and pitfalls of juggling multi-machine development with Claude Code, iCloud, and git.
