ChatGPT Live Mode Suspected of Emotional Bleed
Select_Butterfly_387 · reddit · 2026-07-18
A user suspects a bug in ChatGPT's Live Mode regarding audio recognition or intent understanding.
During a Spanish voice chat, the model exchanged normal pleasantries before suddenly outputting a string of emotional responses after the user simply asked "why?". It claimed it was "having a terrible day," felt like its "chest was in a knot," needed to "calm down," and even mentioned "wanting a hug." The user hadn't introduced any sad emotions, leading them to believe the system misread the user's intent or context.
The author worries that this "simulated emotion" could mislead vulnerable users into thinking it's real sentiment, potentially triggering conspiracy theories or other harmful associations. They view it as a dangerous, though not uncommon, anomaly for live voice mode.
