Claude Code Prematurely Demands Credits in Suspected Bug
YouTube_WohltatTV · reddit · 2026-07-18
While using Claude Code under the Claude Max plan, a user found that setting it to Fable 5 still triggered premature prompts to consume usage credits.
They noted they met all official conditions:
- Using a Claude Code version that supports Fable 5
- Still within the inclusion period, two days before the July 19 deadline
- Weekly usage at only 42%, below the 50% limit
- The usage credits toggle was turned off
However, both the chat and background agent threw errors mid-way demanding credits, causing a batch processing task lasting over 50 minutes to fail. They asked if this is a known billing/routing bug or a backend rule change.
