Frontier Model Training Costs Are Already Astronomical

The training barrier for frontier models is being driven ever higher by costs. The author estimates that training a 5T-A100B model on 50T tokens via GB300 would cost around $10 million for a single "hero run"; adding RL would double that figure. The conclusion: very few companies can actually afford this training budget—likely only a few thousand enterprises globally are in a position to seriously consider it.
