Gemini Desktop to Get Native Skills Menu
dotey · x · 2026-07-17
According to a cited source, Google is developing a native Skills menu for the desktop version of Gemini, which could eventually appear in all chats. Users will be able to upload, create, and edit their own Gemini Skills, ask Gemini to generate them, and use local folders as a source for Skills.
The main post, however, complains about the slow updates to the Gemini web version, especially compared to Codex's iteration speed. It also mentions that a recent redesign removed the highly useful Gem list from the sidebar, and Skills are still unsupported there.
