EU Tells Google to Open Up Android AI Access

Under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU has introduced new "specification" measures requiring Google to make changes in two areas:
- Android: Must open up access to competing AI platforms. Currently, Gemini enjoys privileged system-level entry points, such as pre-installation, wake word activation, system/app automation, and screen content access.
- Search: Google is required to share search data with competitors and improve interoperability to enhance market competition.
Google argues these requirements will harm privacy and security, but the European Commission emphasizes that these decisions are legally binding and Google must comply.
