Pushing back against the open-source community's resistance to AI coding tools, Linux creator Linus Torvalds explicitly endorsed integrating AI in the kernel mailing list. He firmly stated that Linux is absolutely not an "anti-AI" project, telling detractors they are free to fork the project or leave entirely according to open-source norms.
The comments stem from heated community debates over Sashiko, an agentic Linux kernel code review system. The tool claims to independently catch 53.6% of code bugs later fixed by humans during tests, but critics argue its nearly 20% false-positive rate needlessly wastes maintainers' time.
