Germany Includes AI Overviews in Media Law for First Time

German media regulators have, for the first time, made a ruling against Google and Perplexity under the "State Media Treaty," concluding that:
- Google AI Overviews are not neutral search results, but rather function more like content produced by Google itself;
- These AI overviews squeeze the visibility of standard webpage links;
- Perplexity was also included in this ruling.
Both companies have a month to appeal. This is considered a landmark case in the clash between AI search and media law.
