Study Finds AI-Generated Peer Reviews Are More Lenient

An analysis of academic peer review indicates massive penetration of AI-generated content. Data shows that in 2026, half of the reviews contained at least one AI-generated paragraph, and 17% were entirely AI-generated. Furthermore, for papers heavily reliant on AI, AI-generated reviews tended to provide more lenient recommendations than human-written ones.
