Largest GWAS Reveals DNA Mutation Impact on Medical Costs

A new preprint study conducted a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) on approximately 1.43 million individuals to quantify the impact of DNA mutations on medical expenses. The research covered inpatient, outpatient, and prescription spending data across 11 cohorts and 7 countries.
The study identified hundreds of variants associated with medical costs, uncovered strong HLA signals, and confirmed that individuals carrying rare pathogenic variants (such as BRCA1/2 and APC genes) incur higher healthcare costs.
