GPT-Live Voice Experience is Now More Stable
Intelligent_Key2760 · reddit · 2026-07-16
After using GPT-Live continuously for a week, a user reported it as more stable than the old voice mode:
- The old voice mode sometimes replied instantly and sometimes stalled for seconds, feeling like an unstable long-distance call; GPT-Live has a more consistent response rhythm with almost no long pauses.
- It fills silences during complex questions with feedback like "um" or "emmm". It seems to use a lightweight model in the foreground to maintain the conversation while a larger model processes the query in the background. This "fast model catches, slow model completes" approach has been directly productized.
The user believes it hasn't gone viral because the subsequent release of GPT-5.6 stole the spotlight, and the API remains on a waitlist.
