Linus: Linux is Not an Anti-AI Project
PointmanW · reddit · 2026-07-16
Linus Torvalds reiterated that Linux is not an 'anti-AI' project nor a 'social warrior' project. If people dislike AI, they can fork it or leave.
He emphasized that AI is a tool, just as useful as any other. The real question isn't whether AI is useful, but how to make LLM tools assist maintainers rather than burden them. He acknowledged that AI brings maintenance pressure and exposes more embarrassing bugs, but the solution isn't to reject new tools; decisions should be made based on technical merit.
