Former Google DeepMind researcher TurnTrout announced their resignation after the company broke its founding pledge by selling AI to the military without restrictions against "lethal autonomous weapons" and "mass surveillance." They revealed spending months trying to stop the move, only to witness influential ethicists and institutions stay silent.
In response, another user supported AI labs building weapons systems, arguing that unilaterally backing down is naive when facing adversaries who will use AI weapons, and hoping these roles would be filled by patriotic individuals.
