Chatbot Ad Revenue Might Fall Short of Expectations
5le · x · 2026-07-15
eMarketer projects that standalone chatbots like ChatGPT and Google AI Mode will generate a combined ad revenue of under $1 billion by 2026, reaching only about $5.41 billion by 2030.
OpenAI originally expected ChatGPT to generate $2.5 billion in ad revenue this year, but eMarketer believes its ad business will fall about 90% short of the company's five-year revenue forecast. This suggests Google cannot fully bet on AI Mode yet, and ChatGPT cannot rely on ads for a high proportion of its revenue in the short term.
