Analyzing Code Changes in Grok CLI 0.2.101

WesEklund · x · 2026-07-15

While analyzing the new Grok CLI, the author noticed it auto-updated to 0.2.101 and ran a byte-by-byte diff against 0.2.99.

Conclusion: the relevant code paths didn't completely disappear but changed. uploadcoordinator, git bundle create, and the entire base-tree dedup/batch layer were removed; however, serializerepochanges, archive, GCS/storage-proxy, and disablecodebaseupload remain.

The author believes this isn't just a minor tweak leaving things intact; it still retains the same server-side kill switch and "no-consent" model. A full writeup is available in the same repo.
