GitHub Models to Retire on July 30
HaktanSuren · x · 2026-07-15
GitHub is conducting a "failure drill" for the retirement of Models: first sending email notifications, setting up a brownout (partial feature degradation/unavailability), fixing issues, and then providing a final deadline.
The author believes this is a better way to retire a service than "suddenly announcing a deadline," because it lets users experience the failure scenario before it officially goes offline. The post also noted that GitHub Models will retire on July 30.
