Professor Tests Codex for PPTs: Rigid Default Skills Limit Results
emollick · x · 2026-07-15
Ethan Mollick's hands-on test revealed that Codex can now generate complete PowerPoints, but the default presentation skill has obvious pain points:
- Rigid templates: It always loads an extremely generic template, making the generated slides lack personality.
- Limited modifications: This skill contains a lot of critical tool-calling information, making it hard for users to safely modify; plus, manual changes are easily overwritten by subsequent version updates.
He expressed disappointment because the content of the AI-generated slides is often useful, but the presentation format is entirely monotonous.
