Qwen3.6 27B Retains Most Intelligence After 1.58-bit Quantization
airesearch12 · x · 2026-07-15
PrismML announced the Bonsai 27B model, the first 27B-level model capable of running on mobile phones. Based on Qwen3.6 27B, it supports multi-step reasoning, structured tool use, long-context workflows, and coherent agent loops.
Previously, deploying models of this size locally was challenging due to memory constraints—requiring about 54GB at 16-bit precision, or roughly 18GB even with 4-bit quantization. Bonsai 27B introduces two extreme low-bit quantization versions: a 5.9GB version optimized for laptops (1.71 effective bits) and an ultra-compressed 1-bit version. User tests indicate that this extreme compression preserves most of the model's intelligence.
