Firecracker Now Supports Nested KVM
HankYeomans · x · 2026-07-14
A developer's hands-on test revealed that Firecracker can expose nested KVM to the guest. This means you can run Firecracker inside Firecracker, or run virtualization environments like QEMU within Firecracker.
The prerequisite is enabling CONFIGVIRTUALIZATION=y and CONFIGKVM=y in the guest kernel, which makes /dev/kvm appear in the guest OS. The poster mentioned they originally thought this was impossible, but it has now been verified.
