ChatGPT Returns to WhatsApp in Europe
The Decoder · rss · 2026-07-14
OpenAI has re-enabled the ChatGPT WhatsApp integration in the European Economic Area, covering 27 EU member states plus Liechtenstein, Iceland, and Norway.
This restoration is linked to the EU's requirement for Meta to open its messaging platform to competing AI chatbots. While users simply see ChatGPT returning to WhatsApp, the underlying driver is a combination of platform openness and regulatory pressure.
