Coexisting with AI Rather Than Replacing It

The author argues that discussions about AI should move beyond the binary of "replacing humans" or "destroying humanity," and instead view AI as a new entity we coexist with: humanity is increasingly sharing its thinking, work, and private time with a second type of "mind."
They propose three points: First, the risks are more relational than purely technical, as long-term dependency will reshape attention, intimacy, and belief formation. Second, "control" might be the wrong goal; it is more about setting boundaries and norms, much like we do with institutions, markets, and ecosystems. Third, if future systems truly gain autonomy, the question will expand from "is it safe for humans?" to "what obligations do we owe each other?"
